June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- HB Polo took on home side Beaufort in a cracking Arthur Lucas Final on Saturday.  Play was fast and hard from the off with no quarter being given by either side. Scoring was tit for tat in the opening chukka, the scores two apiece after the first seven minutes. The contest contained some interesting sub plots with brothers, Luke and Mark Tomlinson on opposing teams - both hungry for victory and pushing 100%.

Luke was back in form in his 3rd game after returning from injury, his leg badly hurt in a collision. It looked for a moment that disaster had struck in the second chukka as Luke dismounted his horse in obvious pain after a challenge from brother Mark.  However the England Captain remounted and with renewed determination HB added 4 unanswered goals and by the third chukka were ahead 7-2.  Ludo Pailloncy was having a good game for Beaufort, his ability to run with the ball belying his 1 goal handicap mark.  Ironically it would be brother Sebastien, playing at back for Beaufort, who would deny Ludo on a few occasions.  Sebastien’s reading of the game has stood him in excellent stead this season, always appearing to be in the right place at the right time, his well placed backhand shots setting teammate Mark Tomlinson loose time and time again. The combination really came in to its own towards the end of the third chukka with delightfully fluid play and going in to the final chukka were just a goal behind, the score 8-7.

Luke Tomlinson galvanised his men heading in to the last chukka, inspiring two early goals and stretching their advantage to three. Beaufort scored a late consolation goal but by then it was too late, HB emerging triumphant 10-8 and Arthur Lucas Cup champions of 2011.  The Trophy was presented by club chairman Claire Tomlinson.  The Cup was originally presented by her mother in memory in memory of her late father Arthur Lucas, who was instrumental in polo’s renaissance post war.  In the subsidiary for the Metropolitan Cup, Nick Britten-Long’s Laird beat a changed Los Locos quartet, Tommy Morgan replacing Davey Allen who was playing in the Coutts Tournament at Chester racecourse.  Los Locos, despite being two goals down on handicap, fought valiantly but Laird – with the striking combination of Henry Brett and Tom Morley were too strong, winning eventually 7 – 5 ½

Sunday's group match in the Eduardo Rojas Lannusse was played in pretty miserable conditions on Three-cornered ground – arguably the best “all weather” polo field in England.  Paulo Garavelli’s Minotaurs beat Beaufort 6-3.

In last Mondays Final of the La Ema, Vampire Bats took their tournament tally for the season to 2, overcoming Neptune by 5-3 ½
