June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Subsequent tournaments will take place each month until the close of the season in September, culminating in the Royal Oak Leighterton 2 Goal Festival on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2011.

"This relationship makes good sense for the Royal Oak,” explains the pub’s owner Paul Whitbread. “The Club shares many of the same values associated with our business – a passion for quality, a healthy sense of tradition and a commitment to the local community.”

Oliver Hughes, Director Polo at the Beaufort Polo Club explains: “The Royal Oak Leighterton 2 Goal Tournaments are designed to be totally inclusive and to give amateur players a chance to play with the professionals.  In the current climate it is not always easy for people to play mid week due to work commitments and so scheduling tournaments for weekends was extremely popular.  With teams made up of mainly local players, I can see many a match being relived over dinner in the Royal Oak! “

The tournaments will help to raise money for charity as the Royal Oak will make a donation to the Prince’s Trust for each goal scored over the four tournaments:

“We were looking for a charity to get involved with and it seemed to make sense to support the endeavours of another of our neighbours, the Prince of Wales,” said Antonia Whitbread, co owner of the Royal Oak.  “It's great to add to the excitement of the goal scoring by contributing to a good cause that means so much our customers."

The Royal Oak, Leighterton (http://www.royaloakleighterton.co.uk) is a very close neighbour of the Club and the pub’s new owners Paul and Antonia Whitbread as well as Beaufort thought it was the perfect partnership:

“We’re delighted to have a local partner like the Royal Oak supporting and working with us this year,” said Beaufort Polo Club’s Claire Tomlinson. “One of our key objectives is provide first class polo facilities for players and spectators alike, while at the same time engaging local people and businesses in the Club’s development.

About the Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is a traditional country inn delivering high-quality locally sourced food, good wine, well-kept ales and great hospitality in the village of Leighterton, just a few miles from the market town of Tetbury.

The beautiful Grade II listed building recently underwent an eight-month renovation, which saw it stripped back and carefully restored, ensuring it stayed faithful to its origins. The result is a bright contemporary space that gives a nod to the rustic, complemented by restored antiques and original features.

About the Beaufort polo club
Beaufort Polo Club is a revival of one of the first Country Polo clubs.  The Club was originally formed in 1872 by Colonel Frank Henry of the Ninth lancers, who was one of the pioneering players who had taken part in England’s first officially recognised match in 1869.

The Beaufort Polo Club is run by the Tomlinson family – a polo dynasty in their own right.  Claire Tomlinson is the highest ever rated woman player at 5 goals, her eldest son Luke is the English Captain, his brother Mark is also an England regular and daughter Emma combines a career as a polo professional with running a highly successful veterinary practice.

The Club was revived in 1989 with two main objectives – to encourage young players to learn and improve their game and to provide first class polo facilities for players and spectators alike.

Beaufort hosts one of only three full England International matches in the UK and this year England will take on New Zealand on Saturday 18th June.
