Follow on Google News | Nun’s bravery is a fine storyThe story of an Australian woman who became a Carmelite nun and who experienced bravery and sacrifice during France’s darkest hours.
By: Donna Munro This is a story that centres on the life of Bernadette Mary O’Shea, a devout Irish Catholic who was born in Australia in 1915. Later, in 1938, when she finished secretarial college she left Australia to join her brother in France. She was employed as a secretary; however, she thought her calling should be elsewhere, so she joined a Carmelite abbey in Lyon. During the war Bernadette and many like her, helped Jews escape the Nazi clutches. The nun’s bravery and sacrifices are told as Bernadette, now the 82-year-old mother superior of the abbey, looks back on life during that darkest time.
