By: Jose Fuentes By Jose Fuentes/M.S./ www.shapesrin.com Over the last several years, everybody and their grandma is coming out with a certification," Here are my 5 top rules for when you are ready to work with a certified trainer: 1)Certifications. Make sure she/he is certified, I have been certified with many of those Personal Training federations and although some teach more than others. Every year they’re new ones coming. Therefore, I will not endorse any one here. Nonetheless, make sure that your certified trainer has a seal on her diploma by the NOCA(National Organization Of Competency Assurance). And by the Boston-based International Health, Racquet and Sports club Association (IHRSA). Those programs become accredited by a third-party agency such as the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Accreditation doesn't necessarily mean that one certification program produces better trainers than another. But it's a good sign, experts say, because it means that a group's certification standards are sound — which is not likely to be the case with Web outfits that send training certificates to people who do little more than give out their credit card numbers. Teaching human anatomy and injury prevention guidelines is great. I believe most personal training schools teach some or lots on the subject. Some of their CEUS (continuing Education Programs) are really amazing and is a great thing for the trainer to be up to speed with current trends. Therefore make sure your personal trainer is nationally certified. For example LA TIMES once released an article on the biggest loser’s super star trainer Jillian Michaels. The story claimed she was a phony one, stating she was never a certified trainer. Then another one on CBS news was released. True or not, it was full of facts and embarrassing for her 2) Affordability. keep in mind that not everyone hires a personal trainer to work with them every week. That’s quite true! Because some people just need a few initial consultations to get them on the right track. Others might check in with a trainer a couple times a month, or even less often, for encouragement, support or to monitor their progress. Others pair up with a buddy to share the costs of personal training; this is a practice that appears to be on the rise, according to a survey of 281 fitness clubs in the United States and Canada that was released last year by the IDEA Health and Fitness Association in San Diego. 3) Expect to go through an interview by your trainer. Trainers should raise their own questions about your fitness level and whether you can exercise safely. They should ask about medical conditions, medications, previous injuries, and surgeries that may relate to physical activity. Top trainers often offer an assessment that demonstrates they understand the risks of exercise for their clients and their ability to appropriately determine clients’ health and fitness. 4) Variety; the spice of life when it comes to fitness! Find a trainer skilled in various types of exercises. Boredom is the enemy of fitness. Good trainers know many ways to work the same muscles and can vary the workout with fun and different activities like weight training, Pilates, yoga, plyos and martial arts. 5) Beware the salesman And Ridiculous Non Sense Published Headlines. Being myself a recognized published author and copywriter, I still find amazing how virtually anyone can write and publish foolish things online. The most outrageous part is when some trainers write on their websites things like: transformed your body, without one body being truly transformed by them yet. Or published press releases with headlines such as: Unveiled a super work out. Or trainer Revealed a super diet. It is great to use online marketing for search optimization but be careful of oil snake salesmen claiming things like: having the greatest certification for weight loss, the greatest pill for fat loss, etc. Always, demand them to unveil their back up. And am not talking about certifications there is like 400 of them and some can say anything to make current and future trainers to buy more material. I am talking about the following: Ask them to show who says it? How many bodies transformed. Pictures please? How many clients testified about their super diets? How many benefit from their last discovery? . “Remember that is your investment. The most expensive trainers aren’t necessarily the best salesmen. Many good trainers will consider semi-private sessions so you can split the cost with a friend. Just be sure that friend has needs and goals that are similar to yours. And again beware of ridiculous statements!” # # # Jose Fuentes/Master Trainer President Of Shapes R In LLC Founded On April 2003. With Over 1000 success stories and life styles changed documented.
