June 3, 2011 - PRLog -- The school year in the Twin Cities is ending and if parents haven’t yet given thought to how to occupy the kids’ time this summer, now’s the time to do it.  For parents with kids between 7 – 17 years old who have an interest in playing rock-n-roll music, your solution is an easy one.

This summer the School of Rock is hosting 15 rock n roll music camps.

With three locations in the Twin Cities and 16 weeks of camps scheduled, there’s certainly one that will fit into your family schedule and your child’s experience level and interest.

PERFORMANCE CAMP – This is the rock-n-roll experience of a lifetime.  This is the camp for rockers who dream of one day making a living as rock star.  They’ll spend two weeks mastering a set list of 90’s hits in order to rock a live performance at the Triple Rock Social Club, one of the Twin Cities’ hottest live music venues.  “There are adult bands in the Twin Cities that can’t get on the Triple Rock bill, ”  explained School of Rock St. Paul General Manager, Megan Rousey.  ““Imagine how your child will feel when his  friends come watch him rock out at such a venue.”    Auditions are required to participate in this camp.    August 8 – 21.  Choose between Burnsville, Eden Prairie and St. Paul campuses.

SONGWRITING CAMP  -  Songwriting is one of the most gratifying and exciting aspects of being a musician. This camp teaches young musicians how to put their creativity to work with others in a collaborative environment.  Students will study song structure and lyrics by dissecting the work of rock legends. They will then work together in small groups writing their own lyrics, melodies, bass lines and drum patterns.  Campers will study song structure and chord progressions.  They’ll write music to existing poems and create original lyrics for existing songs.  Together they’ll create original music and original lyrics and rely on feedback from each other to strengthen their creation.
Songwriting Camp is for ages 10-18 who have had a minimum of one year of continuous lessons on electric guitar, electric bass, drums, keys or vocals.  Songwriting experience in not necessary but auditions are required to participate in this camp to ensure all participants can play an instrument, which is a critical component to the enjoyment of this camp.  Choose from July 11 - 15 in Eden Prairie,  July 18 – 22 in St. Paul and July 25 - 29 in Burnsville.

GUITAR CAMP  -  School of Rock offers two levels of Guitar Camp; beginner and intermediate/advanced.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED GUITAR CAMP  is for rockers ages 10-18 who are ready to take their guitar skills to the next level!  This summer music camp is open to students who have had a minimum of one year of continuous music lessons. Students must have an electric guitar and know all of the notes on the E & A strings, and working knowledge of power chords.  Campers will be asked to demonstrate their abilities in these areas in order to participate in this camp.

This is a fast-moving, intense camp for hard core lead guitarists who want to take it to the next level.  When you’re finished you’ll be rockin’ out the modes, complex chords, arpeggios and pentatonic scales.  You’ll amaze friends with your new-found skills of shredding and sweep picking.    Choose from June 20 - 24 in Burnsville, June 27 - July 1 in St. Paul or June 27 - July 1 in Eden Prairie.

BEGINNER GUITAR CAMP is designed for students with less than one year of guitar instruction who want to learn the fundamentals of the electric guitar in a fun, hands-on environment. The goal in Beginner Guitar Camp is to get kids started the right way.

That means it must be fun and they must be able to play a couple of songs at the end of the camp.  Without these two elements, it is unlikely the kids will want to continue playing guitar. “We believe in the importance of this so strongly,” says owner Stacey Marmolejo, “that we GUARANTEE your child will be able to play two songs when they leave camp or we’ll continue to provide lessons for them.”   This is the only guitar camp in town with a guarantee.  There are six weeks of Beginner Guitar to select from.
