June 3, 2011 - PRLog -- With the PR industry as a whole expanding, journalists are receiving, on an individual basis, more press releases than ever before. As a result, to ensure that their releases stand out, PR consultants would benefit from accompanying them with supporting case studies, says PR agency, Punch Communications.

Case studies have always acted as a powerful means of adding impact to a press release but haven’t necessarily been a prerequisite. However, as competition across every sector in the business world increases, PR companies have to go that extra mile to ensure that its clients press releases are used over that of its rivals, and case studies not only act to support the messages within the press release, but also give a third party for a journalist to reference or even interview.

Case studies, as a generic overview, provide a background to a company’s client, give detail to a problem that the client is facing and, how that particular problem can be resolved by using the company’s products or services; finishing with a couple of paragraphs and a client comment about how the product or service has benefitted the company overall.

Ben Leuty, account manager at Punch Communications, commented: “Case studies have traditionally been used by companies to demonstrate the benefit of its products or services to potential clients but, with the volume of press releases landing in front of journalists escalating, using a case study as a means of supporting  the release, and giving a working example of why people and/or businesses need the product is extremely valuable.”

PR agencies are undertaking ever more elaborate activities to ensure that its press release standout, including sending videos directly to the target journalist but, they have to be careful that they don’t stray too far from the overall objective, taking the attention away from the press release. Case studies may not be new or innovative but they are extremely informative and add validity to any release.
