June 1, 2011 - PRLog -- EASLEY, S.C. – Wave Sport, makers of the hottest play boat in whitewater, is now the “Official Kayak of the Kayak Freestyle Championship” at Teva Mountain Games. Wave Sport, Team Wave Sport and plenty of Project X freestyle boats will all be in Vail, Colorado, for the 10th annual party in the mountains, June 2-5, 2011.

Teva Mountain Games (TMG) has quickly become one of the premier, multi-sport events in the world. With Gore Creek, Homestake Creek, the Eagle River and the Colorado River just minutes away, Vail is a kayaking mecca. With the Vail Whitewater Park located right in the heart of action, freestyle kayaking is a marquee event for the games.

Team Wave Sport’s latest addition, Haley Mills, and Team Europe’s Kasper Van Kalmthout are coming back with single-minded focus on winning this year’s competition, to be held June 3-4. In last year’s TMG Freestyle Championship, Mills and Van Kalmthout each placed third in their respective divisions. While the goal is to take home first, the competition never supersedes the fun of being on the water.

“Wave Sport shares a philosophy with the Teva Mountain Games. Ultimately, it’s a celebration of lifestyle - a dynamic mix of competition, fun and mountain culture,” said Cheri McKenzie, Chief Marketing Officer of Confluence Watersports, parent company of Wave Sport. “Wave Sport is excited to be an official part of the Games and to support whitewater boating in this enthusiastic setting.”

Wave Sport will join Dagger kayaks and Adventure Technology paddles in two expo tents manned by athletes and ambassadors at “Gear Town” in Vail Village, directly next to the Vail Whitewater Park at International Bridge, home of the Freestyle Championship. Wave Sport boats, including The Project X will be on display and available for purchase.

Wave Sport will be raffling off six logo-wear prize packages throughout the weekend. Raffle winners will be announced at the “Gear Town” expo tent Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit First Descents.

TMG has four organized kayaking events: Steep Creek Championship, Freestyle, 8-Ball Kayak Sprint and the Down River Sprint, which is a leg of the GNC Ultimate Mountain Challenge. Team Wave Sport athletes are slated to compete with the world’s best kayakers in the Steep Creek Championship on Homestake Creek and the Kayak Freestyle competition at Vail Whitewater Park.  Wave Sport athletes competing in both events include: Kasper Van Kalmthout, Haley Mills, Mike Tavares, Elaine Campbell, and Bryan Kirk. Michele Ramazza and Tyler Fox will compete in the Steep Creek Championship.
