June 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Banking Sector: Higher Oil Prices To Support Recovery  Oman's banking sector remains fundamentally stable, and we expect the ongoing improvement in asset  growth and profitability to continue apace over the coming quarters. That said, with the majority of new  lending being absorbed by the public sector, we stress that banks' underlying confidence in the strength of  the broader macroeconomic recovery taking place is still uncertain. As a result, our core view that sees  asset and lending growth remaining well below pre-crisis levels through 2012 remains firmly in place.  The outlook for Oman's banking industry heading into 2011 continues to brighten, as a combination of  higher oil prices, improved regional capital markets, and a more fundamental recovery in the nonhydrocarbon  sector of the economy helps boost aggregate asset growth and profitability throughout the  sector. That said, while we expect 2011 will prove to be a better year for banks than 2010 and 2009, it is  important to keep in mind that a return to the bumper years of growth prior to the global financial crisis is  unlikely before the end of our five-year forecast period.
