And the New Designer Gallery is among the most exclusive spaces at JA. Since it came into being in 1977, the gallery has featured some of the jewelry industry’s brightest stars. Exhibiting in the gallery has helped launch the careers of top designers including David Yurman, Penny Preville, John Atencio, and Alex Sepkus.
“It’s a prestigious thing,” said Cindy Edelstein, designer consultant for the show and former fashion editor of JCK magazine, one of the industry’s leading trade publications. “The New Designer Gallery has been the starting point for designers forever.”
Of course, Lisa Robin Jewelry is already off to a fantastic start. A Cincinnati native who now lives in Kettering, Ohio, Lisa Adkinson founded the line in 2008, after more than 15 years as a successful business consultant and, before that, seven years running her own interior design firm. This year, two of her designs were nominated for the coveted JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards, for Best Necklace Design Under $2,500 and Best Ring Design Under $2,500.
Appearing in the New Designer Gallery is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As an exhibitor in the gallery, Adkinson is eligible to win the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award. The winner will be named on July 25.
“Being recognized for my designs by getting accepted to the New Designer Gallery is an honor in and of itself,” Adkinson said. “But when I think of the talented designers who’ve done it before me—to be joining their ranks is like my vision coming to life.”
The JA show started in 1906. About 13,000 members of the jewelry industry are expected to attend this summer.
