Cate School Honored by County of Santa Barbara

May 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Supervisors representing all five districts of the County of Santa Barbara unanimously voted to issue a special resolution honoring Cate School "for demonstrating exceptional environmental stewardship."

On behalf of the School, Headmaster Williams and Business Manager Sandi Pierce were pleased to accept the commendation, which reads as follows:

Whereas, Cate School has for a century diligently and responsibly fulfilled its stated mission. "Through commitment, scholarship, companionship, and service, each member of the Cate community contributes to what our founder called: the spirit of this place … all compounded of beauty and virtue, quiet study, vigorous play, and hard work;" and

Whereas, since its founding in 1910, Cate School has been committed to incorporating environmentally responsible education throughout every aspect of school curriculum and marrying the school's forward-thinking program with a deep sensitivity to the stewardship of the campus and its environs; and

Whereas, since 2002, the County of Santa Barbara has encouraged the use of low impact development as an approach to land development that focuses on managing storm water in order to reduce impact to creeks, groundwater, and the ocean; and

Whereas, Cate School has demonstrated exceptional environmental stewardship throughout the recent comprehensive campus facilities planning and construction with particular emphasis paid to water and energy conservation, responsible green building practices, and protection of the creeks and riparian habitats using low impact development practices;

Now, therefore, be it ordered and resolved that this Board of Supervisors honors and commends Cate School for its continuing effort, both through its work and its function, to realize the highest ambitions of education, environmental stewardship, and sustainability.
