Rare Tiffany Tankard from 1895 Now On Display and Sale

Monumental American sterling silver Olympian pattern tankard by Tiffany & Co., New York, circa 1895. This large tankard was probably originally made as a presentation piece to commemorate an event. The tankard is fully hallmarked on the underside of the base with Tiffany & Co's full complement of hallmarks including pattern #8837 and the date letter "T" for pieces made between 1895 and 1902. The tankard is also marked "7 pints" indicating liquid capacity. It is decorated on the hinged lid with an applied scrolling foliate and floral boss. The thumb piece is of scroll form, the "C" scroll handle is acid etched near the hinge with a motif replicating the thumb piece design. The body is decorated with a cast and repousse band of figures and scrolling acanthus leaves in the Tiffany "Olympian" pattern. The tankard is raised on a molded rim foot.

This is a true collector's piece and would be a show stopper in a home library or den.
