Rated M for Mature: Stunning Exhibit by Senior Artists at WOW Gallery

Laramie – Presenting a lifetime of creative experiences, Wyoming senior artists age 60 and over will be exhibiting their work in the upcoming “Rated M for Mature” show, opening Thursday, June 30 at the Works of Wyoming Gallery.

June 24, 2011 - PRLog -- With many members ages 60 and older, Works of Wyoming (WOW) helps the community understand that aging – doesn’t necessarily mean growing older in creativity. Wyoming senior artists come from very different backgrounds: retired teachers, small business owners and engineers that know the characteristics of paint and the potential of working with metal, stone and clay.

“Wyoming’s older artists are creative and vibrant, and they have an opportunity to showcase their talents in this first time exhibition,” said Sarah Dahlberg, Coordinator for Works of Wyoming. “The work I have seen comes in, ranges from paintings, prints, quilts and glass, some very unique and creative”.

Dahlberg continued, “Over the past several years we’ve found a fascinating diversity among Wyoming artists. Some are professionals who have crafted a living selling their art, while others have discovered late in life that they have amazing artistic abilities. Those are some of the most inspirational — folks who, after retiring, took a class in painting or photography and found a creative aspect of themselves.”

These artists have retired from their professions . . . only to embrace a second life. A creative one that keeps them alert and thriving, and in this exhibit they share their secrets of a lifetime of experiences. The diverse artists’ work are in many media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, pastel, collage, glass, prints, photography and fiber.

“I was thrilled to learn that I had three pieces selected for the Works of Wyoming “Rated M for Mature” Artists Show. In all three I have melded an old art form – needlepoint – with more modern imagery. Using a technique which I originally learned as a little girl, these paintings were created with yarn dyed to match the evolving colors of the Wyoming landscape”. - Cathi Carr-Lundfelt

"This exhibit showcases work by a diverse and creative group of seniors producing art for personal enjoyment and fulfillment. Although “mature” we all retain a youthful enthusiasm toward life and the arts. The public will be surprised to see the skills and ideas presented. I, for one, thrive on the challenge art gives me. Each day awards me new opportunities to explore color, texture, and new subject matter. I appreciate the opportunity that WOW has given us “mature” artisans." - Jeanie Schlump

There will be a reception on Thursday, June 30 from 5:30-7:30 at the Laramie Plains Civic Center, suite 271. Refreshments will be offered and the show will run from June 30 through July 29, 2011. At the same time, Business After Hours will be held that evening, highlighting the Works of Wyoming facility. Events will include a 50/50 cash drawing and a silent auction for a beautiful print by award winning artist, Jeannie Schlump, and other pieces by artists in the show.
