May 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Dr. Michael Householder of Marshall University is the 2011 recipient of the Inspire Integrity Award - awarded to full-time university staff who have made an impact on their students and community through integrity.

The Inspire Integrity Award is the nation's only student-nominated faculty award that recognizes professors for their commitment to inspiring and instilling integrity in their students and is given by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).

NSCS has awarded Faculty of the Year Awards since 2005. However, in 2007, NSCS refocused the awards on integrity, and inaugurated the Inspire Integrity Awards.

As the recipient of the Inspire Integrity award, Dr. Householder will receive a $1,000 personal stipend and a $1,000 contribution to the foundation of his choice.

Householder received his BA from Brown University in 1989. After teaching high school for several years, he earned a PhD in English from the University of California-Irvine in 2003. While at Southern Methodist University he was recognized for his teaching with the prestigious Golden Mustang Award. Now at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, he teaches courses in American and transatlantic literature to 1860. He is the author of Inventing Americans in the Age of Discovery: Narratives of Encounter (Ashgate, 2011).

"We're proud to honor Dr. Householder," said Stephen E. Loflin, CEO & Founder of NSCS. “He couldn’t be more deserving of this award. We are so pleased to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on his outstanding accomplishments and commitment to integrity.”

Dr. Householder is the fourth recipient of the Inspire Integrity Award. He joins Dr. Shane Hunt of Arkansas State University (2010), Dr. John Pease of the University of Maryland (2009) and Dr. Linda Bolton of The University of Iowa (2008).
