Creating a USP helps you in a few ways:

It isn't hard to come up with a USP--it's easier than creating the product itself. Just focus on the positive aspects of your product and figure out how to fix the negative aspects of it.

Figuring out how to save money for others with your product will help you figure out your USP. This method works in almost every niche out there and with just about every product you can sell. If you can come up with a way that your customers will save more money with you than with other products in your niche, you will do fine. Do not try to make a product that is cheap, though...you need a real balance. Your product needs to touch the emotions of your target audience because people that buy on the web usually buy for emotional reasons.

If you can figure out a way to demonstrate the advantages of your product in a manner that makes people respond emotionally, you can dominate your niche. You need to strike a balance between being practical and invoking the emotions of your potential customers. If you can succeed at reaching people emotionally, they will always go with your product rather than a competitor's, because this is how buying decisions are finally made.
After you have figured out your product's unique selling point, the next thing you need to do is let your chosen audience know what you have to offer. Spread the message as much as you can by including your USP everywhere; right from your sales letter's headline to your logo's tagline. It is your job to let potential buyers know what makes you different than your competition and, until you do that, nobody is going to come out and buy your product.  Many companies spend money on SEO and CPC to drive people to their site, but when visitors arrive, they don’t do a good job communicating their USP.
