Marketing, interactive media and design firm, Trent Design is staying true to its own tagline, “Be bold. Be fluid. Be everywhere,” by opening a second office in Midtown Detroit. The firm will be located at 71 Garfield in the Sugar Hill Arts District, a neighborhood within the Woodward Creative Corridor that takes its name in honor of the black musicians and vaudeville performers that once played there.

At least two designers will be based in the office, working on print projects and guerrilla marketing efforts. Trent Design created the wayfinding yellow Xs that guided people to installations during ArtX last month. Visitors found the distinctive yellow Xs in many forms – lawn markers, huge window stickers and even wall projections.

“I’ve always been a big fan of the cultural center, because of my own personal interest and the clients I have in the area,” said Marilyn Trent, principal and creative director of Trent Design. “So when space in 71 Garfield became available, I decided to take the plunge and put our skin in the game. Being here gives us great visibility and we are doing our part for the revitalization of Detroit. It is going to be great for both of us.”

The building at 71 Garfield is an historic property, built in 1922 as a hotel. It was recently renovated to attract artists and other creative enterprises with live-and-work studio spaces as well as commercial offices.

“Trent Design is a perfect fit for Midtown in general and 71 Garfield in particular,” said Sue Mosey, president of Midtown, Inc. “By joining N’Namdi Gallery and MOCAD in the Sugar Hill Arts District, Trent Design will be an important part of the growing Woodward Creative Corridor. The building at 71 Garfield is also quickly becoming its own hub for creative entrepreneurs.”
