A Change for Memorial Day Weekend

May 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Memorial Day Weekend concert “An Intimate Evening with the Teflon Don” starring hip hop superstar Rick Ross, and presented by Posh Nation, will be donating a portion of all ticket sales and sponsorships to the Miami Police Athletic League (PAL) Program.

Miami will play host to approximately 350,000 out-of-towners for the Memorial Day Weekend holiday. A robust police presence is expected to manage the mass influx of tourists. “Memorial Day Weekend, which is also known as Urban Beach Weekend in Miami, has garnered somewhat of a negative reputation,” says Posh Nation co-founder Domingo Ramos, “It’s actually pretty sad. It should be expected that with so many people in one location, you’re going to have a few bad apples. To apply the reputation of a few people to a half million people is inaccurate at best. We want to do what we can to change the perceptions that people have.”

Posh Nation is a creative collaboration that organizes events with a philanthropic component in mind. Through the efforts of the organization, hip hop artists Black Dada and Scotty Boi performed at a local student rally to stop Black on Black crime at Bayfront Park on May 19th. This is the first of many initiatives set up for the Memorial Day Weekend event. “We want to take a portion of our profits from the Rick Ross concert during Memorial Day weekend and give back to the community,” states Luis Fernandez, co-founder of Posh Nation, “Coming from the boxing community as Yuriorkis Gamboa’s manager, it’s great to see someone successfully hone their craft by being dedicated and disciplined. I think that the kids who partake in the Miami PAL Program will learn things that they can use day to day. They’ll not only stay off the streets, but out of trouble too, possibly building a craft along the way. Who wouldn’t want to donate to a cause like that?”

Artists Rick Ross, Ace Hood, Black Dada, and Scotty Boi are all scheduled to perform at the Memorial Day indoor concert. Posh Nation’s donation will be the first time that a Memorial Day Weekend event directly benefits the Miami Police Athletic League Program. According to Miami Beach police, last year’s Memorial Day Weekend festivities led to 341 arrests.
