Philanthropist Pierre Le Veaux Hosts Fundraiser to Benefit Children of NYC

Organization Provides Support and Programming for Children of Incarcerated Parents
By: Children of Promise

May 24, 2011 - PRLog -- More than 100 influential business professionals gathered on Thursday, May 12th, to support Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) - a non profit organization providing children of imprisoned parents with intervention programs aimed at breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.  Since 2009, Children of Promise, NYC has impacted the lives of more than 80 families serving more than 300 children.

There are more than 80,000 children with parents in the New York State prison system.  Over 50% of children with an incarcerated parent suffer from problems at school including poor grades and episodes of aggression caused by the trauma of losing a parent to the criminal justice system. Without intervention, statistics indicate that up to 70% of these children perpetuate the cycle of involvement in the criminal justice system. CPNYC aims to lessen the burden of these psychological and emotional effects and provide a positive environment for healthy development and social acceptance.

“The children of incarcerated individuals are often invisible victims.  Everyday CPNYC sees their pain and gives them the support they need to move past the trauma of losing a parent to the criminal justice system,” said Pierre Le Veaux, Board Member, Children of Promise. “Through awareness and intervention, we can give these children the resources and counseling they need to break the cycle and become productive and successful adults.”

”We are so appreciative to have so many people come out in support of the children and families we serve.  There attendance here tonight will assist us in providing additional educational and recreational activities during our summer programming in July and August said Sharon Content, Founder and President, Children of Promise, NYC.

Host Committee: Calcie Cooper, Angel Deldridge, Erika Faust, Darian Hall, Latoya Henry, Jerrell Horton, Brandon Lawrence, Pierre Le Veaux, Diane Lucas, Melissa Mauricio, Ludwig Reimmer, Joel Rigueur, Jr., Lakeith Taylor, Devon Watson, and George Wilson. A eclectic mix of musical selections was provided by DJ COMMISH.
