May 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Today AfroDaddy.com – The Black Man Survival Guide, the leading self-help website for African Americans, announces the commencement of their national internship program for college students.  This program is designed to give students from across the country the opportunity to work with each other to learn marketing and sales skills to advance their career ambitions.  “AfroDaddy.com is a community project and everything we do is about the community sharing knowledge and getting smarter together” says Darrell Garrett, Senior Editor at AfroDaddy.com.  “What better way to extend our mission than to incorporate college students who want to learn about marketing and who also want to help their communities”.

The Internship program consists of blocks of two-month marketing projects, where students (in teams of 3 to 5) work together to spread the word about The Black Man Survival Guide through social media as well as direct marketing.  The Black Man Survival Guide website is a grass roots project and it is based on people within the community meeting each other, asking and answering questions and then consolidating that information on a website for all to share and use.  The participating interns will get the opportunity to directly meet and interact with business owners, organization leaders and community advocates; promoting the website as well as recruiting business owners to list themselves in the online resource directory.

“The combination of social media and face-to-face marketing affords the student the opportunity to learn both critical aspects of marketing and how they relate to each other” says Jordan, contributor.  In addition to using the established marketing methods of the team, the students will work together to develop new and innovative marketing strategies.  This team approach is really what communities are all about.  The collective mind is always more creative than the individual, and the bright students of today have ideas that experienced marketers may have never thought of.

Unlike many internship programs, the AfroDaddy program is a paid opportunity, with students earning $500 for their efforts.  “It is hard enough to afford college and every little bit helps” says Garrett.  The internship program kicks off in the San Francisco Bay Area and if successful will be spreading to urban areas throughout the country.    For any students interested in applying, please visit the website at http://afrodaddy.com, click on the “Join the Team” button on the home page and submit your resume using the email on the subsequent page.  For those not in the bay area, please submit your resume anyway as the program will be expanding to your area in the upcoming months.
