May 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Every business owner is faced with the challenge of running his or her business efficiently and productively. Attaining efficiency and productivity in good times will be even more beneficial when the economy is slow. Offering technologies such as paperless invoicing and electronic payment can help achieve these goals. Jim Broughton, president of DataWeld Incorporated, tells gases and welding distributors how they can adopt these technologies in “Let Your Customers Do The Work.” The article appears in the Spring 2011 issue of Welding & Gases Today, the leading magazine for the gases and welding equipment industry.

“Paper invoices are kind of like VHS tapes,” says Broughton. “There was a time and a place for them, but there are much more efficient ways of delivering your invoices.” Broughton asks distributors to consider the costs associated with mailing invoices: paper to print on, a printer with ink to print with, envelopes to mail the invoices in, people to put the invoices in the envelope and postage to mail the invoice. “When you consider daily invoices and monthly cylinder rental invoices, the numbers can add up pretty fast,” says Broughton. Emailing invoices can result in significant savings.

While some customers may prefer paper, many welcome email invoices. “There is an entire generation of iPhone users taking over the businesses you sell to,” says Broughton, “and they don’t want paper.” Distributors can offer customers even greater convenience by adding a link to email invoices that allows them to pay their bills online. “Your customers are happier because they pay their bills when it is convenient for them.”
