Would Apple Change Manufacturers in China Because of Recently Foxconn iPad Plant Blast?

Foxconn is the world’s biggest contract electronics manufacturer and makes iPads and iPhones for Apple Inc. This latest incident again put Foxconn into a tough situation.

You must remember the company's tragedy in 2010.

* A string of worker suicides. Eleven workers killed themselves.
* Labor disputes involving Foxconn and its client, Apple. Chemical element in production causes a great damage to a certain number of workers' health.

The explosion this time has already hit sales of Apple iPad 2. This Chendu factory is an important base to iPad production, taking charge of two-thirds of Foxconn's iPad producing capacity. The company has stopped all production in the factory. According to statement, although the situation is under control, they will not let the plant work until the completion of the investigation as the safety of their employees are the most important.

According to a research note conducted by several news organizations, iPad production will be reduced by 2.8 million units. In comparison with estimation of 8 million units, the production might be 36 percent less in the third quarter.
