May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- CarInsuranceRates.com, a leading site providing no-cost quotes on auto insurance, has posted an article containing the responses of many of its insurance affiliates to Oklahoma Senate Bill 272, which is now before the state’s governor.

CIRS asked its affiliates to offer its opinions on the bill because it will directly affect the car insurance industry in Oklahoma and, if successful, could serve as a model of auto insurance reform for the rest of the country. The bill would prohibit uninsured drivers not at fault in accidents from bringing actions to recover damages for pain and suffering. In other words, the bill would only allow uninsured drivers to recover their actual economic losses.

“The general consensus of our insurance partners is that Senate Bill 272 is an innovative piece of legislation that the rest of the country would do well to adopt,” said Car Insurance Rates spokesman Nathan Ackerman. “Ultimately, the bill would induce uninsured drivers to purchase coverage, and not only is that good for the insurance industry, it’s good for the safety and financial well-being of drivers on U.S. roads.”

Visitors will be able to see the official comments of auto insurers on the proposed legislation through a link on the CIRS homepage. CIRS decided to publish insurer commentary on the matter to generate interest in the matter and to educate the site’s visitors as to the importance of every driver carrying proper car insurance coverage.

“Without the ability to collect damages for pain and suffering, uninsured drivers will no longer be able to exploit auto accidents for windfalls, thereby penalizing those who do carry adequate insurance. Everyone wins, and we want our visitors to understand why,” said Ackerman.
