What:            As a public service, veterinarians from Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. will be offering rabies vaccines for pets free of charge. Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. is urging all pet owners to have their pets vaccinated for rabies, not only for the sake of their pet’s health, but because it is required under New York State law.

According to the Mayo Clinic, rabies is a deadly virus that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected animal. The most recent case of rabies on Long Island was discovered in January 2009 when a raccoon was confirmed to have the virus. Last year, the New York City Health Department’s Bureau of Communicable Diseases confirmed two cases of rabies in Queens County: a raccoon on September 28, 2010 off the Cross Island Parkway and an opossum on October 15, 2010 on the corner of 54th Avenue and Justice Avenue.

Directions:      From the LIE: Take ramp for Cross Island Parkway South toward Kenendy Airport. Cross Island South becomes Belt Parkway South. At Exit 24A, take the ramp right toward Francis Lewis Boulevard. Turn right onto Laurelton Parkway and then immediately turn right onto Francis Lewis Boulevard. After 0.2 mile, turn right onto Brookville Boulevard. Go 2.1 miles and turn left onto Rockaway Boulevard. After 0.4 mile, the road becomes Rockaway Turnpike. Bear right onto Nassau Expressway. Pet Works will be on the right.

                       From the Southern State Parkway: Take Southern State to Belt Parkway South. At Exit 24A, take the ramp right toward Francis Lewis Boulevard. Turn right onto Laurelton Parkway and then immediately turn right onto Francis Lewis Boulevard. After 0.2 mile, turn right onto Brookville Boulevard. Go 2.1 miles and turn left onto Rockaway Boulevard. After 0.4 mile, the road becomes Rockaway Turnpike. Bear right onto Nassau Expressway. Pet Works will be on the right.
