By: First Book-Metro Atlanta “The impact of First Book- Metro Atlanta grant for Scottdale Child Development Center program has been the opportunity to stress the importance of reading at school and home,” stated Barbara D. Clay, Center Director. “The grant has also assisted in building a stronger literacy component into our program with parental involvement. The parents have expressed their appreciation of receiving a book a month for their child.” Additional literacy programs in the Metro Atlanta area have received First Book grants.. First Book-Metro Atlanta is part of First Book’s national network of volunteer-led Advisory Boards who provide new books to children in need in communities across the country. These book grants were made possible through local fundraising efforts by First Book-Metro Atlanta About First Book-Metro Atlanta First Book- Metro Atlanta, has been distributing books to programs serving children in need since 2005. The First Book Advisory Board is comprised of individuals from the community representing organizations and businesses. In 2010, First Book-Metro Atlanta distributed 5,000 books to children participating in programs including Forever Family, Inc., Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, Independence High School Parent Education Program, Girls Inc of Greater Atlanta, Clayton County Public Schools - Early Reading First PreK, and Refugee Family Services.
