Encasement takes off at Heathrow with Column Casings

May 19, 2011 - PRLog -- As part of the Terminal 5 departure lounge refurbishment and upgrade project at London’s Heathrow airport, 36 column casings have been supplied by Encasement to conceal the structural columns in the cavernous building.

The casings stand more than 2.7 metres high and the finished design combines a lower section produced from polished stainless steel with a laminated melamine upper section to provide an attractive and robust casing.

Finished in a light cream colour, the 3 metre high column casings are designed to integrate with the showroom interior and be indistinguishable from a small number of circular concrete columns, which are also used in the showroom’s design.

In its first year, Terminal 5 handled more than 20 million passengers and over 250 British Airways flights leave every day. The Terminal is one of Europe’s largest construction projects with 16 major projects and over 147 sub-projects encompassing a large and hugely complex programme of works.
