May 17, 2011 - PRLog -- The latest production in the Exploring Critical Issues program — the award winning broadcast series conceived and hosted by Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott — will air this June.  “Food, Nutrition & Health” examines the causes of hunger in America and the various responses offered by our policy makers, food pantries, and communities; the special nutritional and health requirements of pregnant women, infants, and children intended to be covered by the Child Nutrition Act, the National School Lunch Program, and other institutionalized programs; health issues related to America’s diet; and more.

The one-hour broadcast, “Food, Nutrition & Health” airs this June as follows:  Sunday, June 5 and Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 a.m. and again at 10:30 p.m.; Tuesday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m.; Thursday, June 9 and Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 p.m.  It can be viewed on Cablevision Channel 29 (Long Island, NY) and Cablevision Channel 137 (Bronx, Brooklyn, Yonkers, New Jersey, Connecticut, Hudson Valley, Westchester, NY-DMA), Verizon FiOS TV Channel 296 (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and most markets), and simultaneously online at www.telecaretv.org.  

The Exploring Critical Issues format features a distinguished group of experts exploring a topic of significance to area viewers.  Joining Dr. Scott for the discussion on “Food, Nutrition & Health” is Dr. Aloysius Cuyjet, MD, Sr. VP & Chief Health Equity Officer and Chair of the Institute for Health Equity, Nassau University Medical Center; Dr. Diane Dembicki, PhD, LMT, CYT, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Adelphi University; Dr. Sarah Eichberg, Director, Community Research and Editor, Vital Signs, Adelphi University; and Paule T. Pachter, A.C.S.W., L.M.S.W., Executive Director, Long Island Cares, Inc. The Harry Chapin Food Bank.

“Hunger is a fact of life in these United States, even as the American diet creates serious health risks from the food that we do eat,” said Dr. Scott.  “This panel of experts provides an in-depth look at food in America.”

Seen by over seven million households, Exploring Critical Issues has earned three Telly Awards, the cable equivalent of the Emmy.
