Wacky Bike Race Takes Off On Two Wheels

May 14, 2011 - PRLog -- MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Urban Bike Adventure is an off-beat bike race made up of obstacle-dodging, scavenger-hunting and road-racing events. This will be the inaugural year for the Urban Bike Adventure created by Jason Kelly, alum of McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. Kelly hopes to spread the spirit of adventure to every city his race visits. The idea is picking up speed as the 2011 Urban Bike Adventure tour now includes ten major cities throughout the country, including Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Miami and Tampa, Fla.

The tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 18 and is expected to draw a large number of participants. Kelly said, “I wanted to start the race off in Minneapolis because it is known as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country.” Kelly said the Midwestern charm and hip culture of downtown Minneapolis is another reason he chose the city as the inaugural stop on the tour.

The Urban Bike Adventure is designed for participants of all skill levels. From the casual biker to the commuter to the triathlete; everyone can participate in this race. “Most teams participate just for the laughs and memories of discovering the city in a new way, but some will compete to win it all,” Kelly said, “either way, a lot of our participants will forget they’re even in a race and just have fun.” Participants will compete in teams of two or three to post the fastest time in completing the checkpoints and earn top prizes.
