May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Area residents wishing to experience live local music—for free—now have a new venue: the St. Joseph County Public Library (SJCPL) Main Library, located in downtown South Bend at 304 South Main Street. Throughout the summer, SJCPL will feature local acts on Saturday afternoons as part of its “Live Music @ Main” series.

According to Rada Ragimbekov and Rob Carpenter, members of SJCPL’s Sights & Sounds Department and the creators of the series, “SJCPL’s ‘Live Music @ Main’ concert series is designed to showcase local talent in a unique setting while building new relationships that help promote both the region’s vibrant music scene and demonstrate SJCPL’s dedication to bringing family-friendly programs to the community.”
All performances take place at 2:30 p.m. on the dates indicated in the Sights & Sounds Department, located on the 3rd Floor of the Main Library. Artists scheduled to appear thus far are:

May 14—Nicholas Gunty
Nicholas Gunty is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter in the Midwest/new-folk tradition. His style and voice have been likened to a dynamic array of artists, new and old, including Paul Simon, Andrew Bird, Nick Drake, and Iron and Wine.

May 28—Eve Kelly
Eve Kelly, the First Lady of Black Outlaw-country, plays flute, oboe, guitar, fretless bass, and lap-steel, frequently switching among them in live performances. Her music represents a blend of American folk, old country, acoustic blues, and jazz.

June 25—Anaya, Nick Harley
Anaya Jolie (age 9) is a talented young artist who has learned to identify with her music at an early age. Anaya loves writing and performing her own music, best described as true and full of heart, with a country feel.
Nick Harley is a folksinger based in Indiana. He has performed in many venues across the Midwest including Chicago’s Uncommon Ground, South Bend’s Fiddler's Hearth, and Three Oaks’ Acorn Theater. His original songs are influenced by the places he has been and the people he meets.

July 9—Elroy (Eli Kahn)
Eli’s influences include everything from groove-based jam to modern jazz. In his quest to find his sound, he has discovered the joys of looping guitars, voice, synths, and other sounds to create trance-inducing textures.

July 23—Kennedy’s Kitchen
Kennedy’s Kitchen, a fixture on the South Bend music scene, plays tear-up-the-floor, break-your-heart beautiful Irish music: original and traditional songs, tunes, and well-embellished tales.

SJCPL welcomes other area musicians who wish to participate in the “Live Music @ Main” series. Interested acts may e-mail Sights & Sounds at sightsandsounds@sjcpl.org or call 574-282-4609.
