Loughborough University Upgrades PC Power Management Capability With Verismic

May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Verismic Software today announced that Loughborough University is using its device power management software, Power Manger, to minimize energy and carbon expenditure across all of its 1,500 centrally managed laboratory machines.

Loughborough University chose Power Manager 3.0 from Verismic to replace Faronics and its Power Saver solution because it needed a deeper, more flexible and stable power management environment to accompany its planned deployment of Windows 7 in 2011 and to ensure it contributed to the University’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint.

Loughborough University has installed Power Manager to power down the 1,500 student and lab machines used daily, ensuring cost and carbon savings across the campus. Loughborough University is also taking advantage of Power Manager 3.0’s Wake On LAN functionality. It alongside Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) ensuring machines are powered on so SCCM can deliver patches and upgrades and power down as soon as that process is complete.

“PC power management is not new to the University; we used a fairly rudimentary scripted system before trying a solution from an alternative supplier – but it proved to be unreliable and unstable,” says Chris Carter, IT services specialist, Loughborough University.

Chris continues: “As we chose to move to Windows 7, I was looking at the power saving side of our desktops and considering if we could do better. The answer was yes. The driving factor in choosing Verismic’s Power Manager has been the manageability it provides and the improved interaction with SCCM. We expect to make cost savings too.  

“The University has a target to halve its carbon footprint by 2016, and we believe that choosing Verismic’s Power Manager will help us make a significant contribution to that. We’re confident that we’ll see return on investment very quickly.”
