May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Kuala Lumpur, 7 May 2011: May 12 is recognized around the globe as World Nurses Day. Traditionally, this day is devoted to all nurses and they are feted with luncheons and gifts. They are recognized for their invaluable contributions to the society.
However, this year World Nurses Day was celebrated with a difference by the nurses from Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur. They decided to mark the day through various charity acts.
The nurses, led by the Nursing Director of Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, Chan Lai Hong, began their celebration with a visit to the Orang Asli community at Gombak.
“World Nurses Day is significant to us nurses but it is just another day in the calendar where we nurses continue to contribute to the society. It does not mean we stop giving out on this day, and take a break. We want mark this day by reaching out to the underserved community,” said Chan.
The group of 40 nurses visited homes and gave out hampers and cash donations to the families. The nurses also gave talks on personal hygiene to the community at the Hospital Orang Asli Gombak.
“Our community work does not stop here. We plan to give out aid to several groups of people, including underprivileged children, old folks and those who are sick in conjunction with World Nurses Day.”
Chan said that the management of Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and all nurses, sisters and matrons of the hospital chipped in with cash and kind donations, including clothes and food items for the Orang Asli community.
