May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Baltimore, MD,  -- Power Plant Live! Is now the place to go for live outdoor entertainment in Baltimore – no matter what the weather. The venue is hosting concerts, events and more under a beautiful new translucent canopy built by OpenAire.

Developed by the Cordish Companies, one of the largest and most respected developers in the world,
Power Plant Live! is Baltimore’s premiere entertainment complex, hosting over four million visitors a year. The plaza outside the existing venue is already the site of free weekly outdoor summer concerts and Baltimore Ravens events.

Built between two existing buildings to cover the stage, OpenAire’s innovative Alley Roof canopy is an exciting new part of the popular Inner Harbour destination. It covers a new outdoor stage for year-round concerts, and is built to protect performers and audiences from the elements so outdoor performances can be enjoyed no matter what the weather.

“It’s the perfect concert venue,” says David Bolwerk, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, OpenAire Inc. “Performances at Power Plant Live! will never be rained out again. The 50-foot-high glazed canopy allows plenty of beautiful natural light, and the sides of the structure are wide open to fresh air and natural breezes.”

The canopy covers an actual small street, creating an open yet intimate outdoor venue that’s great for seeing anything from a small regional act to big-name bands. Supported by several 20’ tall steel support columns spaced 25’ apart, the 1” thick polycarbonate roof is 151’ (46m) long x 37’ (11m) wide, and narrows to 23’ to cover the 14’ x 37’ stage set at one end of the structure. Truss rafters and the surrounding circa 1900 brick buildings give the area an elegant Victorian atmosphere.

In addition to designing and building the Alley Roof, OpenAire is also involved in another part of this $11 million renovation. The new glass-enclosed Beer Garden, a soaring Victorian-style conservatory with a retractable roof, is on track for summer completion and will be another incredible sunlit space made possible by OpenAire.

The $11 million makeover marks the first major renovations since the project opened ten years ago.

"We are very pleased that OpenAire was invited to be a part of this ambitious renovation,” says Bolwerk. “Power Plant Live! is already a popular Baltimore destination, and the new concert venue and beautiful Beer Garden are sure to drive even more business to Baltimore’s renewed Inner Harbour.”
