Confrey Webb was born in the town of Hornchurch in England. After immigrating to Canada with his family in the 1960s, he spent twenty-two years working for IBM Canada. But it was retirement that opened the door, he says, to a different kind of creativity. At age sixty-nine, he met the challenge of self-publishing his autobiography. After receiving positive feedback, he made the decision to launch full steam ahead into writing—specifically, novels in his favorite genre: mystery and detective fiction. His aim was to focus his stories in Essex, on the south coast of England, near where he grew up. Webb says his talent for writing came partly from his Irish grandmother, who was a gifted storyteller, and his mother, who was well versed in the art of fortunetelling and could hold others spellbound.
