Chefs Raise Nearly $150,000 for Advancements in Cancer Care

“Evening of Good Taste” showcases the very best foods, desserts and wines in the region and serves as an official competition to determine the top culinary artists and vintners on Long Island and the New York metro area .

May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- More than 500 food and wine enthusiasts feasted on the finest foods, desserts, pastries and wines served in the Long Island/New York metro area at the 18th Annual “Evening of Good Taste” culinary extravaganza.  Held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, the event raised nearly $150,000 in support of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Program.

“It is with unequivocal confidence that I call Evening of Good Taste Long Island’s premiere culinary extravaganza,” said Stephen Bello, C.E.C., C.C.A., A.A.C., South Nassau’s award-winning executive chef, who is the founder of the event.  “This is a direct result of the enduring support of South Nassau’s administration, the sponsors, the my culinary arts colleagues and the selfless efforts of the event volunteers.”

“Evening of Good Taste” showcases the very best foods, desserts and wines in the region and serves as an official competition to determine the top culinary artists and vintners on Long Island and the New York metro area as judged by a team of certified executive chefs from the tri-state region.  The competition has divisions for schools, restaurants, vintners, bakeries and ice sculptors and awards are given for appetizers, entrées, desserts, overall table presentation, bread, pastries, decorated cakes, wine display and vendor display.

The results of the competition are as follows: People’s Choice Award – Sodexo; Restaurant Division – Appetizer: Sutton Place (Noodle Bowl); Entrée: Butterfields (Venison); Dessert: The View (“Bacon & Eggs”); Overall Table Presentation: Phillip Stone Caterers; ACF Gold Medal Restaurant: Butterfields; Ice Carving – Ice Fantasies; Bakery – Bread: Framboise (Irish Soda Bread); Pastry: Framboise (Hazelnut Dacquoise); Decorated Cakes: Looking Glass (Green Tea Apricot Cake); Breakfast Pastry: Blackstone (Cinnabon); Best Wine Display – Fedway Imports; Best Vendor Display – Coffee Distributing Corp.;  Student Division – Appetizer: Joseph M. Barry Career & Educational Center (Duck 2 Ways); Entrée: Joseph M. Barry Career & Educational Center (Short Ribs); Dessert: Eastern Suffolk BOCES (Dark Chocolate Torte); Outstanding Student Display: Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

This year’s “Evening of Good Taste” benefited South Nassau’s Comprehensive Cancer Program, a recipient of the prestigious American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Outstanding Achievement Award.  The program features a multi-disciplinary team of accomplished medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists who work together and use advanced diagnostic, medical, radiation, and surgical oncology technologies and treatments to treat a wide range of cancers.
