May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- In their 1st season in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the SD Flash Soccer Club (6 - 0 - 0) have taken on all comers and are undefeated in six matches. They currently sit atop the Western Confrence of the NPSL with Hollywood United (6 - 1 - 0). The one loss for United came vs the Flash in week 2 of the season (SD Flash 3 - Hollywood United 1). This Sunday, May 15, 2011, the Flash will host Sacramento Gold in a pivitol match to determine which team qualifies for the prestigious Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Club with the best record through 7 games of the season, qualifies for the one U.S. Open Cup spot alloted to the NPSL West Division. Although the Flash won over United, the Flash must still win or draw this weekend to qualify. Through their 7 matches, United sits with 18 points and now must hope for a loss by the Flash to advance via goal differential tiebreaker (United +26 vs Flash +14).

In another interesting twist of fate, the SD Flash must get by the 2010 Defending NPSL Champions Sacramento Gold; to earn the qualification spot. The Sacramento Gold have had a decent campaign this year with a 2 - 1 - 1 record. However, this weekend will be tough for them. In order for them to catch up to their 7 match total, they travel to Southern California to play back-to-back matches against... Hollywood United on Saturday and then SD Flash on Sunday.

Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) apparently is intrigued enough by the scenario that they are sending a TV crew to cover the match in San Diego. Host Keith Costigan is slated to be the reporter for the match. FSC will show coverage of the match the following week on 'Fox Soccer Report' (which airs 4 times a week) and during 'Fox Super Sunday Plus' (the 2 hr live highlight show). This week is special because it is during the final weekend of the English Premier League and typically millions of people will be watching.
