By: Anne Duncan A leading oral, maxillofacial, and craniofacial surgeon at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery in Denver, Dr. Robinson is the co-founder of Face the Challenge, together with his wife Ginger Holmes Robinson (BSN, RN, Cardiac/Critical Care Nurse), who also traveled to Vietnam. Other members of the Face the Challenge mission to Vietnam included: Patsy King, BSN, RN; Julie Mumaugh, RN; CAPT. BC Shauver, CRNA, USN (Ret.); Jim Shen, MD; and Gabriela Stoeger-Stevens, BSN, RN. The trip to Vietnam marked the 30th international mission for Face the Challenge. According to Dr. Robinson, “I’m honored to be working with this team of caring and dedicated professionals who give their time and talents to serve those in need. Thanks to their contributions, together with the efforts of the talented Vietnamese physicians and medical staff, and the support of our donors, the Face the Challenge mission to Vietnam was a huge success. We were able to make a difference in the lives of 17 patients and their families, including a seven-year-old orphan girl with severe cleft palate, who had been turned away by seven previous surgical teams. The work here is very challenging, but extremely gratifying.” In addition to providing surgical care to patients, Dr. Robinson’s team also conducted its eighth Facial Surgery Seminar at the National Hospital of Odontostomatology (NHOS) in District 5, teaching advanced surgical, anesthesia and pain management techniques to about 85 local surgeons, anesthesiologists, anesthetists and peri-operative nurses. Face the Challenge was invited to return to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for more surgeries and teaching in mid-March 2012.
