May 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Hip Hop is always hot on the radio grabbing a high percentage of play time, but this week’s chart from Billboard magazine covering all genres of music is extraordinary.  The chart is dotted with asterisks proclaiming the hottest gains in airplay time.   The music is filled with current Hip Hop stars and songs which will challenge to be the top Hip Hop songs of 2011.

Taking a Look Down the Chart
Starting at the top of the chart is E.T. with Katy Perry featuring Kanye West.  It was number 1 last week and held onto it for another week.  Amazingly it is gaining in airtime and sales.
Rihanna’s S&M Loud comes in at number 2 but did not earn one of those coveted stars indicating increasing sales and high airplay.  Whether this is an indication Rihanna is about to start a slide down the chart will have to wait until next week.

The list continues as follows:
The Black Eyed Peas – Can’t Get Enough
Jeremih – Featuring 50 Cent – Down On Me
Jennifer Lopez – Featuring Pitbull – On The Floor
Britney Spears – Till the World Ends
Adele – Rolling in The Deep
Chris Brown – Look at Me Now
Cee Lo Green - F**k You (Forget You)
Ke$sha – Blow

Looking through this list of hot airplay songs you can only find 2 with questionable ties to Hip Hop music.  It would be hard to convince the world Britney Spears and Adele belong in the Hip Hop world, but the rest of this group has serious ties to Hip Hop.  With 8 artists either headlined by or featuring Hip Hop artists it was a great week for our favorite genre.

The Boring State of the Hip Hop Albums Chart
While the music on the top of the Billboard Charts for Hip Hop albums is hot and excellent, this week the chart is extremely boring.  Looking at the top 10 gives you a feeling of déjà vu.  The first four positions showed zero change with Chris Brown – F.A.M.E. at number 1, Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Papers number 2, Rihanna – Loud number 3, and Kirk Franklin – Hello Fear holding onto the fourth position.

The rest of the top ten just had minor shuffles among the players with nobody new making a big splash.  We are overdue for some hot new music to hit.  Hopefully all of the big delays coming out of the Hip Hop studios is about to come to an end.  The only person breaking into the top 10 this week was Miguel – All I Want is You, which was no shock since he was at number 11 last week and has been on the charts for 22 weeks.

Longevity is Great for the Stars but Not Always for the Listeners
The fact the shortest stay on the chart from any of these albums is 5 weeks by Wiz Khalifa, an album sure to stay on the charts for weeks to come, is a bit troubling.  Maybe it is time to remind all the current Hip Hop stars that appear to be stuck in the studios summer is quickly approaching.  We need them to get finished and get us our fix of hot summer-time music.  Let’s shake up the charts with some hot new music, don’t let us get bored
