May 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Data Centre Europe 2011 Conference, Nice: Sentry42’s new 60,000 sq. ft. colocation data centre in Norwich, Norfolk, will launch next week with the latest energy efficient technology for heating , cooling and lighting. The company’s Managing Director, Alex Rabbetts, announced the low energy technology specification at today’s Data Centre Europe 2011 conference: “I have always advocated greener data centre technology and Sentry42 is delighted to launch this new state-of-the-art facility which is competitive in terms of its carbon footprint and its power costs for customers”.

Key features of the new data centre include free cooling for its IT equipment for 95% of the year and a smart integrated design system which re-uses excess heat generated by the equipment to heat the offices on site. Additionally the new data centre uses low power LED lighting, controlled by Passive Infra-Red (PIR) motion detectors. “The combined impact of these technologies will cut power consumption by just over 60% and full pay back on our initial investment will be achieved in 2 years,” said Rabbetts. “This is a turning point for the data centre industry, there is now an excellent business case for greener data centre technology which stacks up alongside the corporate social responsibility benefits it provides.”

Data centres are central to the digital economy and enable all of our internet and communications systems. Data centres use around 50 times as much energy as standard office facilities to power and cool the sophisticated IT equipment they contain. Sentry42’s Rabbetts has been closely involved with the data centre industry’s efforts to reduce energy consumption which have led to a voluntary European Union Code of Conduct to promote power saving technologies and techniques.

Alex Rabbetts is speaking on ‘New colocation business models’ at Broadgroup’s Data Centre Europe 2011 Conference, Acropolis, Nice, France.
