May 6, 2011 - PRLog -- The Miss African Spirit pageant takes place this year on the 25th June 2011 in Milton Keynes. Part of the pageant’s appeal, and the reason why it has already proven very popular and set itself apart from all other pageants is that there are no size, height or weight restrictions on the part of the contestants. There is also no swimwear round. In this day and age where pageants are glorified fashion shows, where it seems slimmer, ‘size zero’ models are the order of the day, the Miss African Spirit has challenged that perspective and has proven that indeed size does not matter. What does matter is the “African Spirit”... building a sense of community, being charitable and giving back to the communities in which we live, as well as those we originate from.

Interest from hundreds of prospective contestants this year has come from as far as Spain, Swaziland and the USA, and the Miss African Spirit Pageant today announces the Finalists of this year's contest. The contestants are presented below in order of country.

In the 18-30 year old category representing Angola is Evania Justino. Equatorial Guinea will be represented by Fares Ntutumu Micue; and Ghana represented by Hayes Korang and Maybel Banienuba. For Lesotho Lerato Motebang will carry the flag, and Nigeria's representatives are Debbie Endonyan, Oluwatosin Adefila, Oyindamola Asekun andElizabeth Adetula. Sierra Leone will be represented by Tamel Mei, and South Africa will this year be represented byTamsyn Matthew and Nicole Musson, with the Tanzanian flag being carried by Rahima Ahmed. Clare Abuneri andCaroline Namugayi will represent Uganda, Makaya Chibuye will represent Zambia and Zimbabwe will be represented byNandiipha Moyo, Tafadzwa Jambwa, Gumisai Makombe, Quincelee Nyoni and Cynthia Mtombeni.

The event will also feature performances from Miss African Spirit's recent “Rising Stars” Talent Contest, which was held on 3rd April 2011 at the Ramada Encore. The winner of the talent contest, 9 year old Lydia Singer from Woburn will perform together with last year's 2nd Princess, and singer-songwriter Katongo Temba.

Pageant Director Michelle Adams says “We're pleased to have a variety of contestants of all shapes and sizes representing their countries this year. The only prerequisites to take part is the age of the contestant and the whether or not they have African heritage – that is, if they were born in Africa, their parents or grandparents were born in Africa.”
