Join us May 15th at the Clarkston Community Center for an evening of songs and stories starring Shannon McNeal and also featuring Paula Larke and McKenzie Wren with the Community Center's board member Lesley Dixon as emcee.

May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- The storytelling performance on May 15th is a fundraiser for the Clarkston Community Center.  All proceeds will go to the Center, as the artists and support team have donated their time.

The Clarkston Community Center is a non-profit organization that offers Clarkston and DeKalb residents - both long-time residents and newly arrived refugees - opportunities to learn communally, to play together and to participate in community building programs. It is a center for celebrating community and nurturing the human spirit and it is creating a place for Clarkston and area residents to come together for art, recreation, education and community building.

Shannon McNeal, a Clarkston resident and storyteller, grew up listening to her grandfather tell tales about their family. Everything is a story to Shannon and she is quickly gaining attention in the local storytelling circuit for her funny Southern tales.  She will be sharing stories about her brother, the one they call, “Boy.”  Shannon is a regular at MothUp Atlanta and performed at the 29th Annual Storytelling Festival of the Southern Order of Storytellers in March.  Visit http://www.ShannonMcNeal.com for more information.

Paula Larke is a dramatist, writer, musician, and, in her own words, a "storyteller/gatherer.” For over 25 years and counting, Paula has performed nationally presenting chants, songs, and spirituals.  She tells and gathers tales from many cultures.  She runs the CULTURE program at the Clarkston Community Center, which brings together children from many nationalities to learn guitar, fiddle, and the importance of peace making.  Visit http://www.PaulaLarke.com for more information.

McKenzie Wren is the Executive Director of the Clarkston Community Center and an accomplished storyteller in her own right. Telling primarily world folk tales, McKenzie blends rhythm and song and often tells bi-lingual stories.

All proceeds from the evening benefit the Clarkston Community Center. Tickets are $10 at the door and $7 if you order online via PayPal. Doors open at 4:45.  The show runs from 5pm – 7pm. The show is appropriate for all ages.

The Clarkston Community Center is located at 3701 College Ave, Clarkston, GA 30021.  Call (404) 508-1050 for more information. http://www.clarkstoncommunitycenter.org
