Follow on Google News | Haiti Earthquake Anniversary – Remembering UNITED SIKHS AID Serving Hot Meals for the SurvivorsOne year after a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, the citizens have achieved a lot with international aid but a much more needs to be done. We shall remember UNITED SIKHS’ volunteer team who served hot foods for the survivors of the earthquake.
By: Mercy Patiasamy After the earthquake, UNITED SIKHS’ volunteer team arrived at Port-au-Prince and started serving langgar (the Sikh tradition of serving hot meals cooked in a community kitchen) to survivors of the earthquake. The volunteers purchased food, water and supplies in two 20 feet trucks before heading to the UNITED SIKHS AID camp in Haiti. Despite the immensely difficult travel where they spend 30 hours on the road, the volunteers kept their spirit high and did not rest until they had prepared and served hot meals to the survivors. This is something we all should appreciate. When interviewed one of the volunteer last year, Amritpaul Singh, he expressed that, "After seeing the magnitude of disaster I forgot all my pain. Here, everyone needs help. Countless survivors with serious injuries are hungry and waiting for food. I could not think of anything else but to cook hot meals and serve them," We shall all appreciate and remember all the effort taken by all donors, individuals and volunteers who have been supporting on the relief effort until today. We also pray for a faster recovery of Haiti for the country to prosper and have the citizens live a normal life again. # # # An Ebook business focusing on selling recipe Ebooks which can easily be downloaded after purchase.
