Local California Jewelry Artist Chris Dec Accepted to Three Sisters' Marketplace
New Online Marketplace for Artisans, Crafters & Hobbyists to Sell Their Work
By: Wendy Wolf
Sebastopol Jewelry Artist, Chris Dec, was recently approved by jury to sell her work on a new online marketplace – ThreeSistersMarketplace.com. You can find her Shop at www.ThreeSistersMarketplace.com/
Dec has been a bead jewelry artist for over 5 years and has a passion for the ancient look and feel that is strongly present in her pieces. She often uses vintage beads and metal components from different eras, including the '30s and '40s, and from different countries: pre-war Japan, Tibet, Nepal, old Czecho-Slovakia, what was known as Bohemia and then Murano, just outside of Venice, Italy. "I love the 'feel' of history in a bead. Knowing I am wearing earrings made from beads that have passed through events even before I was born truly excites me." Dec says.
Dec has always relied on the visual to help define who she is. An art major at the State University of New York at Oswego, Dec found her way to the West Coast in 1978 and now resides in Northern California. Dec maintains her own graphic design business, "but the bead section of the studio is growing." she grins. "I am a self trained jewelry artist, and I am told I have a unique sense of design. I am also 6 feet tall and find that I naturally design for tall, large women, with stately pieces, sizable earrings, necklaces that are a little bolder and grander than what is seen in stores. But I CAN do smaller!" She shares a home with husband, a fellow hand-crafting artist and local furniture maker, her college bound daughter, and a couple of blissful dogs.
Dec's work can be seen locally at the hand crafted gallery, Hand Goods in Occidental, and at the annual Goddess Crafts Fair in Santa Rosa. Her recent membership of Three Sisters Marketplace, which she joined to increase her network and online sales, has been a great move. "Three Sisters Marketplace Sales are good for me," she says, "and I have met a lot of other artisans through the shops there...artisans whose level of sophistication and high quality craftsmanship meets my standards. I feel at home there." says Dec.
About Three Sisters' Marketplace:
Three Sisters’ Marketplace was founded in Philadelphia, PA by businesswoman and artist Wendy Wolf. After years as a successful executive in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry, Wolf decided to combine her business experience and her passion for art to build a web-based business www.ThreeSistersMarketplace.com.
Wolf’s inspiration came from the people closest to her—artisans in her family, her friends and neighbors who created beautiful pottery, hand-knit sweaters, and fine jewelry as well as unique sculptures, paintings and more. Artisans found it was a challenge to justify the expenses of maintaining art galleries and art stores or carting delicate items to and from art exhibits and craft shows. Wolf thought it would be easier to create a platform online to showcase items and create an art community exchange. The basis of the site is the balance of the ‘three’ as in the Native American ‘three sisters’ legend of corn, beans, and squash planted as inseparable sisters who grow and thrive together. It is a sophisticated, sustainable system that flourishes because of their working together.
On Three Sisters' Marketplace the artisans, shoppers and our online community all benefit from the relationship – the artisan makes a sale, the buyer gets a quality handmade product, and Three Sisters' Marketplace also benefits by bringing them together and growing for the future” says Wolf. The three plants flourish because they work and grow together... and the artisans and shoppers and our online community grow on Three Sisters' Marketplace.
Three Sisters Marketplace is a family business that supports artisans across the United States. Wolf is a wife, mom, artist, sales person, marketer and leader who is now using the skills she’s honed to launch a dream. The purpose is to bring the “Main Street shopping experience online.” Three Sisters’ Marketplace is a people connector that satisfies the needs of everyone in the mix and that also allows everyone to have fun in the process.
