Follow on Google News | Exhibit of "Eight" Recycled Glass SculpturesThe Lerner Corporation (McLean, Virginia) developer of The Corporate Office Centre at Tysons II, is hosting a solo exhibition of recycled glass sculpture by artist Cindy Ann Coldiron.
Recycled glass is quickly becoming a leader in the green design field and this exhibition of eight kiln-cast recycled glass sculptures compel the observer to broaden their interpretation of what glass “should look like." Artist and author Cindy Ann Coldiron has developed techniques for working with this material where one has to not only think as an artist but also like a scientist. Less than a third of glass is recycled in the United States and, by weight and volume, it takes up a disproportionate amount of landfill space. Most glass artists choose not to work with recycled glass since each bottle or sheet of glass must be pretested for kiln compatibility and it is a slow moving stiff glass and can be unpredictable. During kiln firing at temperatures over 1600 degrees, most clear window or plate glass turns a beautiful mint or aqua color due to the iron oxide present in the glass and often looks like jade or quartz. The reflective nature of each named sculpture from "Infinity" to "Eternity" to “Inner Core" invites one to reflect on the cycles of life. Lerner Corporation, developer of The Corporate Office Centre at Tysons II, is hosting this exhibition as part of their ongoing Art in Public Spaces Program. The program presents museum quality art and creates a lively forum for creative expression in the sculptural arts.
