Bike Revolution Launches New Bicycle Registration Service In Canada To Recover Stolen Bikes

May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Thornhill, Ontario (May 2, 2011) – Bike Registry Canada has joined forces with Bicycle Revolution, a U.K. company that uses the latest mobile applications and technology offering greater features and services for cyclists to protect and recover their lost and stolen bicycles.

With free bicycle registration and an anti-theft platform, Bike Revolution Canada provides the only national bicycle registration database in the country. The new service uses technology in the form of scannable tags, mobile apps and social media networks to deter bike theft and, in the case of theft, aid in recovery of the bike.  

“Working with Bike Revolution’s global platform, Canadian cyclists now have much greater coverage that will only help strengthen our service and help fight bicycle crime,” says Katie Renwick of Bikeregistrycanada.com, a bicycle recovery website that was launched in 2005.

Cyclists can register their bikes for free at bikerevolution.ca, and for even greater protection they can purchase a Bike Revolution Bike ID Kit for $14.95, which includes three Pulse ID tags. A Pulse ID tag is a unique, tamper-resistant and weatherproof ID tag which includes a scannable QR code (2D barcode) linked to the bike and used to identify a bike’s ownership.  

With just a smartphone and any free 2D barcode scanning mobile app, a tagged bike can be scanned by the police or the general public. The tags are linked to the registered bike’s owner in the secure Bike Revolution database. When a stolen bike is reported by the owner or detected through a tag scan, Bike Revolution notifies the owner and uses social networking tools to spread the word locally. The secure database doesn’t share any personal information in the process.

Victims of bike theft can also send out Stolen Bike Alerts on Facebook and Twitter to local authorities, bike shops, cycling clubs and Bike Revolution’s local fans and followers. While not meant to replace the efforts of the law enforcement community, this unique bicycle registration service offers cyclists one more way to proactively protect their bikes.  

“The scannable Pulse ID tags allow the general public and police to know the status of a bike simply by scanning it with their smartphone using a free mobile app,” says Briand Beausoleil, U.K. spokesman for Bike Revolution, which will expand its service into the U.S. in the coming weeks.

Bike Registry Canada is an online national bicycle registration service. Bikeregistrycanada.com was first launched in June 2005. The founder Katie Renwick found that while many police departments across Canada offered a bike registration service in their own district, no system existed to connect one local registry with another in the same region.
