Houston Humane Society Picks PBK To Expand, Redesign Facilities

May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- The Houston Humane Society has selected PBK to develop a master plan to expand their existing 9-acre campus and to add a 57,000 square foot state-of-the-art animal medical and learning center. The new building will add five times the amount of space to the current facilities, and will increase the number of animals that the non-profit organization can help each year.

“The Houston Humane Society serves a vital role within the Houston community by helping to find families for unwanted pets, and by educating the public on how to reduce the pet overpopulation,” said Dan Boggio, President of PBK. “It’s our privilege to help such an organization with their mission to make this city a better place for all two-legged and four-legged Houstonians.”

The Houston Humane Society has purchased 4.5 acres immediately adjacent to the existing campus and on the east side of Almeda Road. The new land will be developed to house the 57,000 square foot medical center, which will include on-site dormitories to accommodate veterinary medical students completing required training rotations.

When construction on the new hospital is completed, the existing 9-acre property will be redesigned with a focus toward the fostering and adoption of animals. Expanded green space will include a park where staff and visitors can enjoy spending time with the animals. An on-site multi-use space will be used for educational events, training programs, such as Diamonds in the Ruff, and conferences to inform the public on matters associated with animal welfare.
