May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Over 40 key players in the Asian maritime industry have made it to the shortlist of finalists for the prestigious Seatrade Asia Awards 2011 organised by Seatrade, one of the leaders in comprehensive global maritime communication and shipping awards schemes. Now in its fourth year, the Seatrade Asia Awards offers an unrivalled opportunity for organisations to demonstrate excellence, innovation, dedication and outstanding service in the Asian maritime sector.

Companies and individuals were invited to submit nominations for their achievements and meritorious measures in the previous 12 months in 15 categories spanning education and training, environment protection, safety and technical innovation to name a few. This year’s criteria and judging procedures have received more fine tuning and restructuring to ensure they are the most transparent and fairest in the region.  The independent panel of judges comprise Arthur Bowring of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, David Chin of the Singapore Maritime Foundation, Oh Kong-gyun of Korean Register, Yuichi Sonoda of the Asian Shipowners’ Forum (ASF), Noboru Ueda of ClassNK and Tim Wilkins of INTERTANKO.

The winners will be announced at the 4th Seatrade Asia Awards gala dinner on Friday June 17 at the Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong. The evening will see over 400 shipowners, charterers, managers, lawyers, bankers and other stakeholders in the Asian and international shipping community, come together to honour the winners and celebrate what the finalists have accomplished in the past year. There will also be the presentations of the Entrepreneur of the Year, Personality of the Year, Young Person of the Year and the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement awards.  It will indeed be a night of celebrations, not just of individual or corporate achievements but also a celebration of the resilience and strength of the Asian maritime industry and the players that make up this important sector.

Seatrade is delighted to announce the finalists in the award categories and congratulates each company for making it to this prestigious shortlist, a distinct representation of commendable contributions to the industry.
