Butterball, LLC and Chef Tony Seta Join With Salud Family Health Centers to Promote Healthy Eating

May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- LONGMONT, Colo. – Butterball, LLC, the nation’s largest turkey producer, donated more than 160 pounds of turkey pot roast to the Salud Family Health Centers for a Dia de los Niños celebration aimed at raising awareness about the importance of healthy living.  

During the event, Butterball’s celebrity chef, Tony Seta, used the turkey meat donated by the poultry producer to prepare his turkey taco recipe for approximately 400 guests who attended the Dia de los Niños celebration on Fri., April 29 at the Longmont, Colo. center.

“Butterball is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with groups like Salud Family Health Centers, who are committed to building a healthier community,” said Seta. “It’s important that consumers have access to nutritious, wholesome meal options that are also affordable. Turkey is a great option because it is a relatively affordable form of protein. We understand it can be challenging to make meals fun every day. At Butterball, our goal is to bring more value to consumers by providing healthy every day recipe ideas through our website.”

As part of Salud Family Health Centers’ initiative to enhance community health, this year’s celebration provided nutritional education and demonstrations to hundreds of Longmont individuals. With more than 30 booths from local groups including Boulder County Public Health, medicaid/ CHP+ enrollment, YMCA and the public library, the event increased public awareness of local resources that can help community members live healthier.

“There are many youth within our community that do not receive immunizations,
dental checks or health screenings that are essential preventive measures for a healthy lifestyle,” said Kirk Bjella, AmeriCorps member of Sauld Family Health Centers. “We fill the gap by providing these services at affordable rates. Further, we work to educate the community on available resources, thus increasing the community's ability to deal with health issues that arise.”

Salud Family Health Centers is a primary health care delivery system whose ultimate goal is to provide quality, comprehensive health care services, and to improve the overall health of the communities it serves by reducing barriers to health care, including: ability to pay, transportation, and language. Salud in Longmont is currently accepting new patients and provides many services including integrated medical, oral and behavioral health.
