SD Flash Soccer Club of San Diego Remains Only Undefeated Team in Western Division of NPSL

May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Today the SD Flash Soccer Club (5 - 0 - 0) of San Diego were able to pull off a win in their tightest match to date; by beating the Sonoma Sol (2 - 2 - 1) in San Diego by a score of 1 - 0.

San Diego Flash Striker #9 Duatch "Dutch' Jock scored an early goal in the 3rd minute and it looked like the Flash were going to have an easy day. After the goal, the Flash had the momentum and kept up the offensive pressure. They had several opportunities to score in the 1st half, but just could not find the back of the net. The half ended with the SD Flash leading 1 - 0.

Despite the early goal by The Flash, the Sonoma Sol did not go away easily. In the second half, they kept playing strong. There were a couple scoring chances by the Sol, but they were handled easily by the Flash defense. The Sonoma Sol played extremely well eventhough they only had one extra player on the bench.

In the 2nd half, the Flash missed on 3 open net scoring chances which could have easily put the game out of reach. As it turned out, the 1st half goal in the 3rd minute was all the scoring the Flash needed to secure the win. The San Diego Flash now remain at the top of the Western Division of the National Premier Soccer League as the only undefeated team.

Flash Goalkeeper #1 Justin Meyers recorded his second straight shutout of the season.

Head Coach Warren Barton remarked, "The Sol were a good opponent today. As far as our guys, I believe it was a good test and at the same time a bit of a wake up call. We should have scored more goals; had more focus at the critical moments. We will be working with the players to improve their mental toughness."

The next match for the SD Flash will be at Real San Jose on Saturday May 7th. The Flash return home to play Sacramento Gold on Sunday May 15th.
