April 29, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, NY – Orangutan Outreach Director, Richard Zimmerman, announced plans today for a comprehensive campaign that will educate and empower hundreds of human mothers to actively help with the protection of critically endangered orangutans in Indonesia. The event is called M.O.M. - Missing Orangutan Mothers and will be held at zoos around the world on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 2011.

In announcing the plans for the event, Zimmerman said “There is no one better than a human mother who – just like an orangutan mother – takes care of their children with the utmost dedication and love, that can understand the plight of a species that has suffered relentless devastation due to the destruction of their environment and the separation of mother and child. As a result, hundreds of baby orangutan orphans are now in rescue centers without their mothers.”

This year zoos will be celebrating the connection between orangutan and human mothers. Throughout the day, human mothers and their children will be given the resources to help save precious orangutan lives and their forest home. Holly Draluck, Orangutan Outreach’s M.O.M. Coordinator, said, “We are very excited that more than twenty zoos including the National Zoo, Toronto Zoo, Milwaukee County, Sacramento, Honolulu, Houston, Miami, Seneca Park in Rochester, NY among others will be participating this year. It will be a fun experience for everyone. Be sure to visit www.redapes.org/mom for a list of participating zoos and institutions.”

Our special thanks to Clark Communications for their generosity in donating their public relations expertise and work to this campaign.
