Marble tiles have been widely used for years and are a natural stone found in the earth. Development of marble takes many years and is subjected to high temperatures and pressure whilst in the earth and the materials fossilise and become crystallise
Marble is not one of the cheaper tiles but is known for its elegance, style and beauty that it adds to any home. Marble flooring is very popular and as well as the decorative aspect, marble flooring is durable, strong and an ideal choice for busy areas.
Marble material is taken from quarries usually in chunks and taken to be processed further, marble slabs are sawn in order to get the correct sizes and tiles are then cut into various sizes. There will be variations in the colour of the tiles, largely because marble has developed naturally and marble is consistent with the colours running through, often described as veins of lighter and darker shades.
There are two main common types of marble flooring, those being the tumbled marble and the traditional marble. The traditional marble tiles tend to have more of a shiny appearance and are an incredibly chic and elegant tile. The tumbled variety has a buff appearance and are generally a more natural and earthy tile. The tumbled variety work especially well in kitchen areas and will add a real design statement to any home.
With proper care and maintenance, marble tiles are easy to maintain and there are certainly many products on the market that will keep your marble tiles clean and looking good. Regular cleaning is important in order to maintain your marble tiles but regular cleaning doesn’t have to be with specialist cleaners. Warm water and a mop is ample in order to tackle the day to day cleaning of your marble tiles and many home owners give their marble tiles a more thorough clean maybe once a month.
There are many cleaners on the market that will be sufficient for cleaning your marble tiles but you mustn’t use anything that is acid based as these can damage the marble tile and change their appearance. Cleaning your marble tiles thoroughly once a month will ensure they keep and maintain their pristine appearance for many years. When the tiles have been cleaned it is always best to dry them afterwards with a dry cloth, this stops any marks from smearing and stops the tiles from becoming slippery
