Follow on Google News | Car Recalls Grow for Trucks as Toyota Motor Corp Recalls 51,000; Toyota Tundras AffectedToyota Motor Corp is having a problem with its Toyota Tundras and is issuing a voluntary recall to remedy the problem. Car recalls seem to be continuing for Toyota as the Japanese company is still recovering from the tsunami and earthquake disaster.
By: Porta Press The current voluntary safety recall being conducted by Toyota includes about 51,000 of the 2011 Toyota Tundra trucks. The slip yoke, which is a part of the rear drive shaft, has a possibility of breaking due to improper forging during the metal casting process. Toyota has estimated that only about 0.05 percent of the potential affected vehicles included in these car recalls will have the problem. There has only been one report of a drive shaft slip yoke failure in a customer-owned vehicle, and at this point there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries due to the possible defect. Also, it is only the Toyota Tundra that is having this issue; no other Toyota or Lexus models have been reported to have a problem. Notices for the car recalls will be mailed out to owners by first class mail starting in May 2011. Any owners that are affected by recall should visit a dealership where a 10 minute inspection will be performed to identify if there is a problem. The outcome of the results will determine if the rear drive shaft needs to be replaced at no cost to the owner. If any owners have any questions they can visit Toyota’s website for more details or call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331.
