“The people that Goodwill helps have disabilities and other disadvantages that could keep them from achieving their dreams,” explains Kirsten O’Donnell, Goodwill spokeswoman. “Every year, we look for a speaker who will inspire our guests and show them that success is always attainable. Jason hasn’t just overcome the obstacles in his path to success, he’s soared over them.”
In 1992, a boating accident near Matlacha claimed Gunter’s right hand and his left leg below the knee. As a Cape Coral firefighter at the time, the accident forced him to reconsider both his personal and professional long range goals. After returning to the fire department, he was named the 1993 Florida Firefighter of the Year. Gunter then returned to school, and graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University Law School. Today he is a successful attorney with his own Southwest Florida law practice.
